It is not merely about ritual or external conduct, it encompasses the inner orientation of truth, compassion, self-restraint , and devotion. According to Srimad-Bhagavatam , Canto 7, Chapter 11, Verses 8–12, Narada Muni outlines 30 characteristics of dharma , which form the foundation of right conduct ( sadachara ). These are considered universal virtues that transcend caste, gender, or social position, and lead to both individual purification and social harmony. Shastra (शास्त्र) &  Scripture    Shastra (शास्त्र) - A sacred and authoritative text which instructs, guides, and disciplines beings through knowledge, showing the right way of living in harmony with Dharma. Shastra = Texts that explain rules, principles, and true knowledge. Dharma-Granthas = Texts that teach righteous conduct, devotion, and worship. Shastra = Systematic knowledge + moral conduct & discipline. Scripture = Sacred revelation + divine authority. In summary, Scripture is a subset of Sastra distinguished by sacred revelation and divine authority, but Sastra is a broader category that includes any systematic body of knowledge or teaching in Sanatana Dharma.
